One of the things we enjoy making at The Martlet is our very own Iron Gall ink, this is the sort of ink that you will find used on historic documents right up until the last century. We make the ink following an 18th century recipe and the spring water we use in its manufacture, comes from a holy well called Ffynnon Gybi in rural Wales (see the pictures below in the long description. The ink comes to you in a 60ml bottle, classically and beautifully presented with an Italian paper and sealing wax label. The colours of the label reflect the Autumnal colours of Ffynnon Gybi.
Iron Gall ink is a permanent ink, when you write it initially appears a light grey, but within minutes it begins to oxidise and darkens to a blue-black. We say on the bottle that it is only for use with quills and dip pens, but you can use it with fountain pens should you wish to but at your own risk. We recommend that you wash out the fountain pen well after use, or the pen will corrode. 60ml bottle.
