'Cambridge' panelled trade binding
This commission was for a blank journal or notebook. The block was formed from a fine Ingres paper, sewn by hand on to hemp cords with linen thread. The book was bound in full calf, dyed and sprinkled with vegetable dyes and tooled to resemble a typical 'Cambridge' panelled trade binding of the period 1690-1740. There are some photos below that show the finished book and also a video showing the dyeing process and the blind tooling being applied.
